Antiwork

11–13 hrs a day is too long to give to your employer.

This is a bit of a rant and if you stay to read the whole thing then thank you. Little bit about me. I left the work force back in February of this year and decided to retire little early (semi retire is what I like to call it because I can still work if choose to) I left so I can spend time with my new born daughter. Growing up I didn’t get to spend time with my mom or father. They split and never seen my father growing up. My mother and I didn’t get along even though she was there with me. I didn’t want this for myself with my daughter. I was given an opportunity to retire early after turning 30. Fast forward to now. I moved my wife and daughter to japan early august of this year. Fast forward to now. I moved my wife and daughter to japan early august of this year. I decided to look for work and it didn’t take long to get a part time gig doing IT since that’s what I was doing. I work as a backfill position, it’s when a company full time employee goes on vacation I would go in and fill in that position. It’s very part time and I like it since I don’t have to deal with office politics (what broke me in my last job and decided to leave the work force). I work for the day or two and then don’t have to think about work. (I decided to this part time gig to bring extra pocket change and keep my IT resume up to date in case I need to go back FT for whatever reason).

Right now, I am doing a backfill for a company for 2 weeks because their full time IT guy wants 2 weeks off. I travel about 3 hrs and 30 mins a day and be in the office 9-6. It made re-realize why I left the work force. I barely have time for myself or my family. When I wake up, my daughter wakes up and start her day but I am pretty much out the door. When I come home.. she’s asleep. (I am spending 12.5hrs a day for commute and working)

It’s only two weeks and I’m on my 4th day but Damn, it makes me sad and it’s really sad knowing that there are people out there doing this for 40 years and missing out on their life and if they have children then their kids life. Weekend is very short. That really doesn’t count in my opinion.

Y’all stay strong!
