I started my own daycare just because all the places with the services I want for my son (cameras, a way to reach the teachers directly, photo messaging) have year-long waitlists. I pay well and want everyone happy because my son is literally a student- I want him well taken care of while I work my day job. Because this is on my dime and I also charge less than the Big 4 daycares around, I’ve been buying toys and other basics used because there is no difference between a $50 brand new Diaper Genie and a used $10 one after the first diaper has touched it 🤷️
Today I was on a hunt for toys and the lady I was buying from let me know she just shut down her Assisted Living Facility over staffing so “good luck” running my own business. “No one wants to work. I was paying $9/hr and raised it to $11, and people were still bitching and just not showing up to work, so now I am out of business!” I damn near blew saliva out of my nose. The local burrito restaurant pays $14/hr- no one in the world wants to change a full grown adult’s poopy diaper for less than they can make rolling burritos!
