2 separate 1 on 1s with vastly different feedback.

I got a contract at a new job, and things were going great. First one on one I was told I hit the ground running. 6-months-to-hire I got this, first time big boy job, that pays ok and has benefits and stuff. 2 ish weeks later I have another 1 on 1 asking why I am slow, not turning in as many (IT) tickets, and that I don’t have an “urgency” to get things done? I’ve been working the same since I started. Was told to stop joking at the help desk because someone got upset, even though they flung all sorts of shit talking at me. Then I was told contracts aren’t always renewed, and they don’t always hire contractors. (Lead sat in on 1 on 1 and was like but sometimes we do, it certainly isn’t always the case). Am I overreacting? I essentially see this as a “we’ll finish the contract, but won’t renew it or hire you”.
I’ve decided to start saving and make sure I have evidence for unemployment cause last contract position lied and said I quit (I appealed and won but it was painful waiting for desperately needed money for food and bills at the time)
