I’d love more information on how to start a union for social workers (in the United States). How does a profession start this process?

What's with the recent push from upper/middle management to get people back in the office. I don't understand why this has become a new battlefront. I have also seen a lot of articles in the media from right wing pundits about “getting back to the office” the sentiment being that employees are better off and happier working in the office. I don't know who has been apart of this research but that hasn't been my personal experience from speaking to colleagues and friends. Literally no one I have spoke to wants to go back full time, part time yes maybe. My company has an all staff meeting tomorrow whereby the general theme will be getting staff back into the office, however they have considerably downsized our office and expect most staff to be in a very small and compact room, which will be hell in terms of keeping focused. I…
The audacity of his employer
I really wish this wasn’t a thing we have to deal with but gestures broadly here we are… annual review
DMs open.
My son, applying for University undergraduate programs worldwide chose to give up $200 plus dollars of my money when University of Toronto application process required him to additionally (it was not stated at the start of the application process) record video answers that would be timed. So he finished 13 other applications and chose to close it out. Asked for his money back, and was refused, it's a money grab. So, he is getting admitted elsewhere and has received at least one scholarship but we are waiting for the others. Edit: this was after various questions and form entries and transcript stuff. This level of “show me your face, let me judge” is worrying for job seekers if it gains popularity within the corporate world. Let's take note of UT and add it to r/antiwar guidelines. We are not zoo animals. I have started to yell at HR (and it…
Anti-labor Supreme Court candidate (US)
US friends — I haven't seen much posted about this in here, but I just thought everyone should know that multiple high-ranking folks in the Democratic Party are strongly pushing Judge Michelle Childs behind the scenes to be nominated to the Supreme Court. Michelle Childs is a former corporate lawyer and actively worked against labor rights. She has no place on the highest court and it's our responsibility to contact our representatives to make sure it doesn't happen. While Senators aren't the ones who decide the nominee, people emailing their Senators to let them know you expect them to not support this potential nominee. Here are instructions on how to do that.
Hey am I crazy or is this wage theft
It's my manager's 15 year anniversary of employment with the company. Other managers surprised him by arranging catering from a sandwich place and 3 silk cream pies from the local grocery store. After having my sandwich I went back to get pie. I was early, the pies had been cut but only one slice had been taken from one of the pies. There was one pie spatula for all 3 pies, and it was already covered in pie. I started to just wipe it off with a napkin to go for the chocolate pie, when it clicked that the pie on the spatula was from the peanut butter pie. I saw a big problem looming that a napkin wasn't going to solve. I asked the managers standing around me if there was only the one spatula; yes there's only one. I tried telling them that no one should use the…
I joined this org because of the mission but they don't even uphold the values theyre imparting on other companies. I really believe in the work it does to make companies more sustainable. But how can other companies consult an organization on fair labor practices and social justice when the consultants are getting paid jack shit? We are underpaid as consultants and analysts and not a single non-executive has received a raise in over two years, even though we have been begging to be paid more as our work load increases. 100% of the people I started this job with have left. All of the people who trained me have left. I hesitate to leave because of how much I care about the work but it's just unbelievable how my organization is willing to let people leave rather than budge on their salary policy. Also I know that its easy…
