So the place I’m working at used to give me about ~25-35 hours a week. Good enough pay + tips, but after I started going to school again they cut my hours WAY more than they needed to. I’m barely working 20 hours this month. So, basically it’s not enough to even pay for the gas money to drive there. I haven’t asked for more hours because I feel like it’s a waste of time, but maybe it’s worth a shot? Wondering if I should just quit and spend my time looking for other opportunities. I wonder if anyone has advice for me?
Month: March 2022
for context, i’m 19 and work casual in a bakery section in a supermarket to make my living wage. i work 30 + hours per week while halfway through my teaching degree. I am currently the only staff member who can be relied on to do the work; the staff have not trained anyone to do the work as it’s an autonomous work environment. It’s one person at a time who runs and handles the inventory and ovens and sales (without any help from anyone else and no training prior). I sometimes can forget to come into work due to having to balance between university and work. My management have an extremely high turnover rate and it’s very often to only see someone for two weeks before never seeing them again; due to harassment and overall lack of care towards their workers. My management never care or understood my need…
I wonder if she'll laugh when she reads my reply like I did when I read her offer https://preview.redd.it/6hzk7op7u2m81.png?width=782&format=png&auto=webp&s=cb42d43a31df9bf80a00fc50b1d3154ad9e3edc5
Ive been saying this
I’m really frustrated
Excuse the formatting, I’m on mobile and I’m just typing the first thing that comes to mind. Nowadays,I don’t really care for work but seeing that that’s where we are in the world if I have to work I’d rather do something I know I’m good at. We need to do something to get by( even though getting by shouldn’t even be a thing. We should be able to live without worrying about being homeless and starving.) I thought that the ideal position would be (hear me out) in a cubicle for a couple of hours a day being left alone to work on whatever and then go home. This was before life was the way it is now. Back in 2014 I just wanted an office job. I was fresh out of school so I was more than accustomed to the “sit for 8 hours a day and go…
And how can I get in on that action?
I have had to fill out two job applications now asking for 20+ years of work history. They want a name and contact information of a supervisor for the last 10 years. I actually hope they call Jeff from my Janitorial job in 2012 and ask him about me. Jeff doesn’t remember me, Jeff didn’t know my name when I worked there. Jeff don’t give a shit.
Red Flag in job posting
Just saw this in a job posting I was looking at: “Thrive off being in a very fast-moving environment and being super busy yet being a part of a company where you just may find your “2nd family”! ” What do you guys think? Total red flag right?
