I’m only 17 and iv quit my first job. (rant)

So Ive been working as a dishwasher in a Chinese restaurant for the past six months, whilst also having to deal will 6th form and exams. Pay being crap, and it also involved tasks i couldnt physically be capable of doing, like putting stuff on the high shelf or taking out garbage thats more than double my weight. I never knew how difficult it would be, mistake on my end. And the language barrier between me and the other workers doesn't help. So recently, i decided to quit, and it feels really relieving. I can finally work on my studies instead of running for money. And hey, iv got plenty of years to get a job.

Just a funny/mildly infuriating story about feeling the need to always have to cover a particular person & finding out what management’s solution was…

(I’m a tech at an ER vet hospital. The office and normal operations are closed on the weekends, but the emergency department isn’t, of course, so we get emergencies, and we get many on the weekends). I work 6-6pm Saturdays and 6-12pm Sundays in the hospital. Someone is supposed to be there at 12pm to relieve me. She’s always late, leaving me to cover until she shows up (20-30mins later). Not too much of a deal—frustrating, yes, especially when I had plans or needed to be somewhere, or just the fact that I could’ve been home by the time she felt like actually showing up, but I dealt with it because, whatever, 20-30mins isn’t terrible, even if it was every Sunday. Then, it progressed to: if she felt like it, she wouldn’t come in until 2pm or later. If we were busy, I’d stay because I’m not going to leave…

Fired via text message

I've been lurking here for a bit but thanks to FB memories, I've been reminded of a job I had last year that was pretty shit. I'm 29F living in Australia and have a fairly extensive work history, and at the time I was looking for work after my internship had finished months prior. I should also mention that I have diagnosed Aspergers syndrome and high functioning Autism which can make me a little awkward socially but doesn't usually impair me besides the occasional anxiety. I have a personal employment case manager, which is someone who keeps in touch with me and can assist communicating with employers on my behalf. She is very hands off and does not get involved with my week to week unless I have a massive issue I'm unable to resolve myself. In January last year (2021), I saw a part-time job listing at a local…

If you work in the US you probably DO NOT HAVE A “SALARY”

The point of a salary, or an “annual income” used to be that certain specialized workers would be given pay based on an annual rate. Jobs that had inconsistent work, but still needed to be kept around in a business, would be provided this because everyone needs to eat every month but the work isn't always there. Sometimes people would have to work more hours in a week and sometimes people would work less, and that was factored in. Flash forward to 2022, me and all my coworkers collect a “salary” given in an annual rate which is liable to be docked if we take more than 5 vacation days in a row (to be approved by HR based on 'company needs'). Meanwhile people are constantly devaluing their pay by performing unpaid overtime to meet “deadlines”. I have been overly focused on my coworker, who I actually got hired, while…

I just did 3 interviews with a company over a months time and was ghosted in the end.

Two phone interviews, one hour long Zoom interview, multiple emails back and forth, and I get ghosted? I’d feel so much better if they, at the very least, emailed and said it wasn’t going to work out. Last interview was over 3 weeks ago now. What the fuck? Is this normal?

Yesterday I interviewed for a marketing job that I feel unqualified for. I’m a recent grad and the starting salary is like $70k. Is it a red flag that the employer is being this nice to me?

I quit Feb 1. Haven’t been paid. It’s March 4.

They said they pay monthly. I was there for only 3 weeks bc management was toxic. (Internship). Anyway I called them to quit on Feb 1 and now it’s March 4, haven’t been paid. I didn’t ask for it bc it’s obvious that once I say “I quit”, u are liable to pay what I worked. I didn’t want to appear money hungry either. They never gave me working papers or anything like that. Didn’t even ask for my banking information until I brought it up. But I was told that’s normal for a startup? And it’s my responsibility to ask them to take my info? Huh? Anyway, I was wondering if it’s normal to not be paid yet, given that it’s a monthly cycle at a startup. I was planning to email today for my paycheck.
