I work at a chain gas station (rhymes with Schmoliday and Smirkle K) and the corporate policy on cell phones is a simple ‘you’re not allowed to use it on company time when clocked in, if you are caught using it any time other than breaks you will be written up and terminated after 3 write ups’. Easily understandable and followed, no issue there. They want us to work while being paid, not play on our phones, I get that, especially since there are some people here who have it in front of their face the whole shift. Don't know if this might be an unpopular opinion, but I prefer to eat at my desk. Hear me out: The way my schedule works out, I take two of my three daily meals on shift, and no I'm not lucky enough to work at one of those places with an employee dining room, so I either have to take the time to meal prep and bring something in or use a break to leave and grab fast food. In that case, technically I could extend the break to be able to enjoy my meal away from work, but then I feel I ultimately spend more of my day at work. If I don't use my whole break, that just allows me to leave earlier. I would much rather leave earlier and use more of my day to do what I enjoy like getting to bed earlier or having more…

The last few months my family and I have had a lot of health issues ranging from COVID to an ER visit to my PCP referring me to a specialist for possible cancer. My attendance at work has been spotty for sure during this time. I have been communicating to my boss as much as possible and he has been super supportive. For context, I work at a nursing home in maintenance. Back in early November, I was promoted to boiler technician and was supposed to be making $19/hr. I accepted the Job and was adamant about signing paperwork for my raise. Due to some shit Luck, I broke my foot and was out of work for a month. Long story short, I came back Early December, the guy training me left, so I was told Im working 2nd shift for 16.50 because I didn't sign anything. Fast forward a few weeks and I have to call my boss about my raise, I said I feel like I earned it and Im back, healthy, and ready to learn. My job sucks as it is. Management pretends to care but nobody will take responsibility for anything. That's just how it works, it's “nobody's fault” and as a result nobody is held accountable. I personally hate cell phone companies, so I go out of my way to fight for the customer, no matter what. I do a very good job and everyone knows it. I'm not going to mention the company by name, and you probably wouldn't find it by looking in my profile. However, this is the biggest company I've worked for and one of the biggest in Canada, so it's likely that a lot of you will find similarities with places you've worked, or even recognize the company if you've worked for it as well. I work as an instructional assistant at a school for children with behavioral issues. As you can expect, it isn't an easy job at all. In my time there (about six months now), there have been several fights and incidents where the police needed to be called in. For me, the issue I most had to deal with was teasing from the students. They mostly teased me for my size, as I am quite overweight. I can just be walking down the hall to go to my next assignment, minding my own business and a student comes along and calls me “fatass”. I had to deal with that shit all throughout elementary school, middle school, high school, and even college, but to have it happen to me as a working adult was the last straw. Boss decided to move the company across the country to a city with a cost of living almost 20% higher than where we're coming from. My rent costs over $1k more a month. Got a minor cost of living adjustment that covered less than half the difference. They've shipped me all over the country to do repairs so I've been away from home for 4 of the 6 months I've lived here now, paying rent on a more expensive empty apartment. Then let me know my employment was being terminated immediately, less than a day after I had gotten home from a site visit to repair their equipment. At least now I can work on my tan while I collect unemployment.

Pretty much just the title. I don't know if something like that would work since I didn't get fired, but I've also heard there's certain circumstances where you can get it even if you quit.
