Throw away account here and I'm not sure if this belongs here. But I recently started working a new shift at my job as an apprentice with a different co-worker and his teaching methods are harsh in terms of him being “old school”. I enjoyed going to work, but these past few weeks I get anxious and scared just going in to work and working with him. I get looked at like I'm dumb when I answer something wrong, or don't know something. He expects me to know everything even when he has 20+ years of experience in this field. I'm really contemplating on quitting or talking to my manager to switch shifts because it's eating me up just thinking about going to work. I don't know what to do. Sorry for the rant.
So I just handed in my resignation and my last day will be 2 weeks from now. My problem with my workplace is the poor management. My manager was a total manager and was just setting me up for failure. He would not warn me if I was doing something wrong but would rather collet months and months of “incidents” so that he could write me up. If he knew I was doing something wrong why not tell me long ago so I can fix it? Also saying really disrespectful things and targetting me. It was taking a toll on my mental health and I even got depressed. I finally got out of that mind set and decided to do something for myself. Going to quit and start a new career. It's a scary decision but I am excited to learn new things. When I handed in my recognition he…
Some of these might sound like common sense but people forget this stuff all the time. If it’s just a random job you only plan to stay at short team to bridge a gap then all these steps might not be necessary. Seek out current and former employees and figure out what they like the most and dislike the most about the company. And for those who don’t work there anymore figure out why they left to try and spot any red flags. ALWAYS attempt to negotiate your offer. They are oftentimes given a budget for a position and 9/10 times they aren’t offering you the max amount of the budget. Use median salary data for the position in your area and the company’s Glassdoor reported salaries as tools to negotiate. Take a good look at any benefits pamphlet/handbook they might give you and make sure PTO, maternity leave, sick…

Go “Local” Be Loco!
Be me! Go into my favorite local ma and pa restaurant that is advertising “$15 per hour new hire needed asap” on the damn door. Be me! Need extra cash to support my family. So….I apply thinking that of course I want to support those that are striving to outlast the poison of food chains, plus the food at said ma and pa restaurant is oh so good. Two days later I get the call to come in and “see if it’s a good fit!” Just so happens that my daughter’s birthday is the same day, though they are understaffed and so that is the only day I can shadow and train with someone that is experienced. With heavy heart I accept with blessing from daughter and mom, who know I am trying to help keep things afloat at home. Day comes, and I go to “work.” Granted, I have…
is to slow the work down. Take yout time with any task at work. If you can do a task in 2 minutes, strive to do it in 5. Use this extra time that you have gained to think of ideas to further sabotage your exploiter. Recruit one of your fellow workers whom you can trust to do the same. Rinse and repeat.
