Month: April 2022
Been working at my organization for over 16 years. I got injured on the job over a month ago and have been out on workers comp for the first time in my life. No one. Not my supervisor, or their supervisor, no one, has reached out to me to see if I'm ok. I supervise a work crew of 8 guys and we still exchange group text messages, but no one higher up in my organization cares that I will need surgery and will probably be out for months and may never totally recover. Just remember that you are expendable.
and this is why “no one wants to work”
I walked out a job interview
Today I had a job interview. They saw I had ticked yes to being disabled. They then proceeded to ask if I was eligible to be paid under the “supported wage system” (essentially a way to pay below minimum wage based on productivity). Upon hearing this question I just got up and walked out. I didn't say anything.
I’ve been on the overnight cleaning team for over a year the people who worked longer than me have with been here since covid started when they made the department or just started after me like this month I only know the main departments but each day we do “deep cleaning “ it’s different every day every department has like 4 deep clean task wich takes as long as a department and the team each knows bits and pieces of a departments clean but none of us know it all but her but if she calls out or is out with covid or on vacation it becomes obvious that there’s about 10 or so task none of us lowly squeegee monkeys know how can I prove this to the higher ups so I can get them to stop blaming us
The math sucks
So right now, with my current health problems, I can work about 5 hours a day. That’s all I really have to go grocery shopping, class, homework etc. Given I can only work such a limited amount of time I’ve figured my best bet is freelancing. I would need $70/hr with only 2 weeks off to get above $80,000 which I doubt is a living wage in my state in terms of rent (edit: on top of things like copays, med fees, art program subscriptions, keeping service dog healthy and fed) We’re still trying different meds but I’ve been sick for 4 years now and while the symptoms have improved my functioning really hasn’t. So ha fuck I’m screwed. I haven’t even graduated yet and I get kicked off my parents’ insurance in 2 years. How’s everyone else’s day going?
