I live in Arizona, and my friend works for a delivery company and he’s been getting 187 stops a day without help in vans that are literally illegal to drive and are beyond unsafe to drive. When doing the DAILY INSPECTIONS, all employees are told to ignore all issues and state vehicles are in full functioning order or they will be terminated. He’s been joking about just leaving the van Locked with keys inside and quitting what is legally stopping him from doing this?

The vast majority of content posted here concerns the US of A and it’s usually accompanied by Europeans in the comments being absolutely baffled by the often ridiculous work policies you unfortunately face. BUT fellow Europeans, to remind ourselves and the rest of you that we’re not out of the clear yet, I bring to you a news article from my homeland that was published today: (I’ll loosely translate the news article, no worries) Today, employees from a local supermarket refused to open shop and let customers in. This uprising was due to a layoff that occurred last month in that same store. Said employee was reportedly fired for committing “a grave error”. What was that grave error that warranted getting fired over you might ask? Apparently, while in the back of the store, the employee felt faint and ate a cookie from the expired goods sections.. That’s it. That’s…
I’m about to officially resign from my job. Being connected to a place that I know is openly shady and that doesn’t care about me or my mental health as an employee has increased my depression, anxiety, so much so that I have contemplated living. I currently have other issues affecting my mental as well and over the past couple days Ive had several mental breakdowns. I know that I can’t keep going on like this. To know that I’m supposed to protect and help save other peoples lives and I can’t even protect my own is a tragedy within itself. To any and everyone in this subreddit or just in general, don’t kill your self behind a job no matter how good they may pay or for any other reason. The job is shady? Leave. The job doesn’t care about your physical or mental health? Leave. The job doesn’t…
Vague because I don’t know yet what further actions I’ll take, if any. Input would be appreciated, but I do value my mental health over revenge. If nothing more I can just digitally scream “What. The. Fuck.” Took unpaid vacation time with manger approval. Got injured and required surgery. Owner/manager knew all of this and my expected return date (1 month). I could not be medically cleared to return to work until my incision was fully healed due to the high potential for infection or chemical contact in a Covid collection and testing lab. Within hours of reporting my medical ‘all clear’ to the owner, I was terminated. It’s at-will, so they didn’t have to make up an excuse, but chose one anyways, that does not apply to this business or me. Days later they say I can come back and that they neeeed me because someone just quit without…
Firstly I would like to congratulate the Amazon workers of Staten Island. You all did a great job, and all of your hard work paid off. As you’ve noticed, worker solidarity is the way forward. I congratulate and wish you all the best moving forward. You have as you have said many times, accomplished something very special here; You dealt a spade to the behemoth that is Amazon, a company created by the richest man alive, and in doing so you have spelled out a message in it’s blood for all workers to see far and wide: IF WE DID IT HERE, YOU CAN DO IT THERE NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE. Solidarity comrades, and thank you. Many new unions are popping up across America right now, from the above mentioned Amazon workers, to Starbucks and countless others. Within these struggles a paradigm seems to be appearing – struggle radically…
Not sure how I feel about this, just happened to me. As a person, I’d never do that to someone, I’d just throw it away myself. I hate retail, this job for $14 in California is a joke. I wish I had the luxury of denying the trash and seeing what would have happened, but instead I took it and even said “no problem”, ugh
I work for a firm that has clients. I was given a client that I didn’t know was going to be this complicated. I didn’t have the experience for it and they were looking for someone that was at least one or two steps above my experience. I messaged my manager and the partners to let them know my opinion. I told them that I was nervous about the engagement, that I felt I didn’t have the proper experience to handle something this complex, and that I was uncomfortable doing it by myself with no one reviewing my work or having me there on site. They both told me that I should look at it as an opportunity to learn. I complained saying I didn’t know what to do or even get started and the client I was working for just kept saying “I don’t know that’s why I’m paying…
Discrimination and homophobia
I got told to “be a man” and got gaslighted by a Coworker, getting told that it was my fault for getting angry about being discriminated against. I was working in a restaurant cleaning dishes (the greatest job there is) and there was a coworker whose sibling is dating my stepbrother. I was working one day and he came up to me and had some inappropriate comments to make about my sexuality and said that I was gay for my stepbrother (his sisters boyfriend and not true) and I asked him to repeat what he said but he said “trust me, you don't want me to repeat it” and laughed as he walked away. He came back and then I told him off strongly and he tried to lie and say “i was calling him gay not you” which is not true. He's an insincere gaslighter/liar trying to save his…
negotiating higher pay
My coworker and I have decided to talk to our boss about raising our wage from 17/16.50/hr to a higher wage after researching our pay compared to other florists @ a median range ($24/hr or 50k/yr). Does anyone have any tips on how to negotiate this? We're both considering valued members of the team and told every week 'we're worth every penny' Thank y'all
