Hey guys. I am relatively young and have my first job being in a position where I am second in a chain of command among 5 other managers to the GM who also effectively acts as president. Although I feel I could be paid more, I can live off of what I make. That is not the case for techs and guards who work for us during the summer. What is an approach to understand how much money people SHOULD make in seasonal jobs and how do I work to help leverage better wages for those under me?
Month: April 2022
I was told by an employee that they need to keep track of EVERY customer. Because if a customer leaves without paying, every employee working has to pay the tab out of their tips. I don’t know if this is standard in the country or legal, just passing on what I was told. Either way, it’s a terrible policy. Edit: Karakter is a beachside restaurant. They do have a bar, but they are a restaurant. Sint Maarten is a country in the Caribbean.
This. This is the fucking problem.
I think I hate working more than anyone.
I really really hate working and I have been trying to find ways to escape it I'm not sure what to do currently I'm working a job shoveling dirt and sawdust out machines all day for 13.96 3 am to 1 pm which is considered basically the best thing where I live without college the average salary where I live is like 27k and basically everybody works minimum wage jobs and the richer people work 12 hour labor jobs. Life really sucks I just want to play video games and relax I can't do that forever because I get really bored but why do we have to work 5 days a week? I wish it was like 2 or 3 and life wasn't completley about work and being super serious about it. So far the things I have thought of is working a couple years and living in a super…
boss fired me for asking to be paid
It has been a year since I left my previous job at an outdoor apparel company with a peculiar bird, and I couldn't be happier. My manager at the time poached me from another company, with the promise of getting a much better salary and benefits -which I did get-, and openness to improve the process. Since I was a bit tired of the reluctance to improvements from my previous company this looked like a great opportunity. It became my worst job experience so far. In the first month, I got my on boarding experience, and the first red flag rose. While reviewing our forecast accuracy, I noticed that there was something off with the formula. Without going into specifics, they were taking the absolute of a sum, instead of the sum of absolutes for measuring accuracy, among other weird things that didn't followed any logic. I pointed this out,…
Gotta love the typical abusive workplace
My coworker and myself were asked to come upstairs today by our department manager. She sat us down and said we are talking to each other too much and that other people are blaming us for their work not getting done. I asked her if either of us weren’t completing our tasks and she said no, that the issue with us talking during work was causing others to be off task. I literally laughed out loud and I said okay, so if A and I don’t talk to each other at all or anyone else and their work still isn’t getting finished who or what will they blame next, or will they blame us for not talking and that’s a distraction too- because in their eyes we got dressed down and that’s going to cause them to gossip and not work. She admitted that she had pulled us up to…
