Company grossed $4.7 billion in profit last year. I got $0.62/hr for my raise.

Thats not even 3% because they changed how they calculate our raises. We no longer get our raise on our overall pay, they changed that this year. Now they subtract our shift differential and then give us a raise based off that. For example: I made 21.85 including shift differential. They subtract the shift differential 21.85-1.25=20.60 Then they give us our raise based off that. 20.60 x 0.03 = .62 They did this to save pennies. Because 21.85 x 0.03 = .6555 or roughly $0.04 This shit is dumb as fuck. Doesnt even count inflation in. Literally another billion dollar company penny pinching. I hate this system Update: Found out the building wants a maximum average of 2% increase. A friend here got $.21

I asked for a raise and was let go; I’m devastated.

I work in trades, and am (well, was now I guess) employed by a contractor in an industrial setting. I work on projects in an industrial setting, when that project is complete I’m sent to a different plant for a new project. I haven’t gotten a raise since starting this career as a first year apprentice; I now have enough hours to be a journeyman and am scheduled to take the journeyman exam in June. There were people starting with zero experience making more than me. I was the lowest paid employee at the last couple projects I was on. Any talk of pay with other employees was “confidential.” I got more bold about asking people the last few months, and this is when I found out I was being underpaid. They were starting brand new people making $10 an hour more than me. I’ve been a ball of anxiety…

Do you/would you give negative reviews for employers who underpay their employees?

(And then create alternative accounts easily to upvote your review?) I noticed owners of businesses will get immediate alerts and even respond to reviews on Google. Do you think this is a decent way to pressure owners or to at least let customers/future applicants know that a company underpays? Would you be willing to do it? (Some employers will have friends quickly give 5 star reviews after a bad review so there could also be a local group effort to make sure some legitimate reviews don't get drowned out.)

I’m about to have to greatly decrease my quality of job to afford life.

I wanna start this by saying I don’t think less of people who work in gas stations by any means. I worked at one in college and worked all of kinds of odd jobs. Everyone is just trying to pay their bills. What’s bothering me is I am currently sitting in my car outside my office in almost tears because I can no longer afford to work this job that I took multiple state exams for, went to class for and got fingerprinted for. They won’t raise the wages to match inflation (my boss literally said when I wanted something when I was younger I got a second job) and my husband and I (who also works a job that requires a good bit of certification) are nearing eviction with our kids. The gas station down the road is offering $4 more an hour if I work overnights and the…
