Sr. Manager was so bad HR had to move him to a different department.

So about a year ago I quit my job at a major corporation. The reason I quit was a combination of things but by far the biggest reason was that management sucked. Right before Covid hit there was a big re-org and two departments that were mostly separated before were combined. Instead of using one of the two previous Sr. Managers to lead this new department, upper management pulled in a new person from outside the company. Now this guy had been in the industry a while so he had great technical knowledge but had no knowledge of how our internal systems work. As a result he would ask us to do things that, while not a bad idea, we had no way to reasonably accomplish. We would tell him that's not how that works here and get responses back like, this is how we do things now!! Anyway I…

[US] I don’t understand the Stockholm Syndrome-esque concern for giving your two weeks or outright quitting.

If you become anxious when thinking about how your manager/coworkers/company owner will react, please understand they don’t care about you. They only care about the inconvenience you’re causing. I’ve worked in corporate America for 10 years and food and retail before that. It has all been draining and frustrating and all of my managers titled from Store Manager to GM to VP to CEO are the same brand of manipulative assholes. Don’t feel bad. You aren’t bad. Take care of you and yours. If you think your next employer will call for references, they won’t. It never happens unless they personally know your old boss, and even then it’s extremely rare. There’s no special “previous employment check” for anyone to refer to and you can even choose not to put employers on your resume. I’ve done it. Nobody cares [insert Dennis Nedry gif]. DO NOT DISCLOSE WHO YOUR NEXT EMPLOYER…

Wage theft vs time theft graphic?

A few weeks ago I saw a nifty graphic posted here comparing how much employers steal from employees vs how much employees steal from employers. I forget the exact language that was used but that was the gist of it. I can’t seem to find it now. Anyone know where I can find that again or what I’m talking about?

Reminder to hold all your work examples for your portfolio on a personal device. I was fired without notice and have none of the work I did.

I was let go (my position was terminated) on Monday without any notice and I was rushed out. I have been trying to put my portfolio together showcasing the work I did with the company (creative position so portfolio is needed for future hiring) but all of my work was on my work computer. So I guess now I know to save a copy of everything I do on a personal device.

Quitting my job tomorrow.

Finally leaving my shit retail job tomorrow. I work for a phone company that’s paying me $10 an hour, gives lackluster commission, and is ran by dumbasses with the personality of drunk college kids. My manager is possibly lying about having COVID-19 to get out of work for the weekend, and for the past 5-6 Friday’s has tried to get me to come in from 12:00 to 8:00 PM to cover his closing shift. I lit a fire under his ass by exposing all the bullshit he’s done to higher ups that i’ll possibly share after I quit. I am fed up with being treated like a joke, being talked down to, working harder than I should be, and picking up after my manager who’s a filthy trash goblin. Feels good to finally say this shit.

So proud of my mom and sister

Mom is super conservative and has been on the “nobody wants to work” train. My sister doesn’t do we’ll standing up for herself and has been a professional doormat most of her life. My mom was invited to apply for a different roll – basically similar work but at a district instead of a school. Her resume was fantastic, her performance reviews have been outstanding for the 8 years she’s worked there, and her professional references were from people with glowing praise for her. They offered her the job, but at the lowest possible pay rate for that position. She faced them down and told them that the offer was insultingly low. The position has been open for almost a year, the amount of work it will take to get caught up is daunting, and that once she’s caught up it will still be about 20% more work with less…
