I work at my University. Standard front desk job, work 3-4 hours max a day unless I pick up a shift. Its like $9.30 an hour, average about 140$ paychecks (every 2 weeks). It honestly isn't enough to pay my bills, but I have enough saved up where its fine, and I'll be receiving more money. I also have a summer job lined up already (I'm super excited for it!). I only work 2 days a week and then Fri+Sat+Sun every other week. I have been 10 mins early every shift, and have been willing to stay longer if the next person doesn't show up. Which quite frankly, I've done 5 or 6 times so far in about a 3 month period. I let them know a couple weeks beforehand (I was the first to say I needed off) that I needed my Sat+Sun shift picked up as I was…

pto in Washington state?
I am an apprentice plumber in Washington state. I've been with the same company for almost 4 years. We only do prevailing jobs and was told we don't have pto. I was under the impression in 2021 Washington state passed a law that everyone can get pto based off accrued hours worked. My office tells us that it is already included in our fringe benefits and won't be payed for time off…anyone know anything about this? Or did they find a loophole?
https://www.thecut.com/2022/04/the-etsy-strike-what-to-know.html In the interest of public and working class solidarity, what would worker-owned or nonprofit alternatives to Etsy look like? Sites like Wikipedia show that people are willing to do things that benefit humanity on a not for profit basis. When you buy off of Etsy, you're supporting an exploitative business model that helps cannibal psychopaths profit from the labor of people who lack the leverage and bargaining power to get a better deal. This Etsy strike is a good opening to build out alternatives to the Etsy model, which lets cannibal psychopaths dictate the terms of the economic arrangement to the massive detriment of artists, customers, and humanity. Work that's worth doing includes taking down the cannibal psychopaths destroying humanity and the planet.

Other people just say “suck it up” and get whatever. Yeah well I bet the same person saying that has a job that pays them well. Or knew what they wanted to do after school. Or live in a low cost of living area. I don't know if these folks are keeping up with the news, but you can't even afford an apartment if you make minimum wage. You'd be fortunate to get by with two people working minimum jobs. “Oh then go learn a trade”. What trade?! There's a ton of trades out there! I don't even know which one to try out! “Oh just pick one”. Like easy for you to freaking say. You have your work life all set! Don't you realize there are people out there that struggle to make concrete choices? Then what those people have to suffer low wage jobs because they don't know…
I work for a big recognizable company, but we only have 25-30 employees and only 9 or so of us are working at once. I was hired by my company out of college and had a lot of expectations because my role and field of study was something my company desperately needed and they have not been profitable in quite a long time. Recently, tensions have been high at my job and there was a major labor dispute that lasted a majority of the winter. Eventually, the stakeholders relented, and even brought in some big money performers to help ease our load and hopefully turn things around. Now, let me tell you about the customers and clients at my job, they are famously the worst. Like; the most sarcastic pieces of shit. There are even twitter accounts dedicated to the things people overheard my customers say and a lot of…
I can't bring myself to spin my experience into some generic employee ideal that the employer idolizes. It drains me and pains me to keep up this fake personality for the sake of living. And prolonging it while working. It's unnatural and foolish. It's like in school were you are a passing grade student and some other student gives off the vibe of “I'll be your friend only to get a good grade; afterwards, I will not acknowledge you”. I knew long before I got my first job, I'd have a hard time in working life. And parts of the facade personality permeates into your real life too. I just want to take care of a cat and play Apex. Is that so much to ask?
Idk if this is bad or not I feel kind of like it sends a message that it’s only to catch “employee theft” instead of being for general security of the restaurant. Lmk what y’all think I might just be looking for shit to be mad about
