30 hours in one week “off the clock”

How can this be remotely legal. Started at a major hospital a week ago. There are laundry lists of computer “modules.” And very involved, detailed “competencies” one has to pass during one's orientation. I do understand these are in place for patient safety of course. The enormous issue: These modules and competencies have taken up an additional 30 hours of time when not in the facility. I haven't been paid one red cent for any of this time. How can assigning work like this be even remotely legal?
