I had one of my employees quit with 3 days notice this week, and everyone is pissed at them for giving no notice.
But that's literally the one concession we get for an at will contract. The employer gets all the benefits.
We can be fired with no notice, no severance, for no cause. And we have an abandonment clause – so not turning up for 3 days with no notice means we're fired. Literally, I could get in a car crash on my way to work, fall into a coma, and after 3 days my job retroactively ended the day if the crash….as does my health insurance.
So yeah. At will contracts are absolute bull, and shouldn't be a thing.
