So I've been wondering this for some time. What is the point of giving 2 week notice?
- Most in no way will return even if the company said they will pay you more (which never happens anyways, and you will be treated like shit for trying to do better)
- Many bosses have a fit when you quit
- Nearly all companies around the world can fire you without notice and they can make up reasons.
- A company isn't your family. It's a trade. You trade your time, skill, effort for their money and other benefits they might offer. The people who say well I don't want to offload things on others. Do you invite your co-workers to your home or do you go to their home? Do you hang out afterhours? Will the “friendly” relationship keep up after you are gone? If so, then I understand. But since 99.999% will say no to all of this. I don't understand how this is a reasonable excuse
I know some managers are going to be bitchy about this. But again, we can get fired at any time for any reason (if there is even a reason) our fault or not. We get no notice. Why the double standard?
If it isn't professional for an employee to do it, then why should the managers be able to against the employee? And unless if it's someone with an exact skill where there is only 5 people in the world that can do x. If 1 person leaving collapse the company or causes mass problems. Then it is a bad company/department. What if the employee died? There sure as shit no notice when that happens.
