i just found this subreddit and i hope this fits here. this story is about 4 months old. i’ve been having issues looking for work and i finally found a job listing for a mail sorter through a temp agency that started at 2:30 am and required 10-25 lbs to be lifted (important later) i got the message and i confirmed that i was able to only work on the weekends and they added i made up my own hours as long as it was 2:30-8:00 am which was fine. i started and red flags were already going off. i spent 10 minutes trying to find the place, had to enter with the manager and i was incredibly lost because i had no training. i started organising packages with some people who helped which was nice but then we stopped and i got called over to a shelf and told that i would be placing packages with the corresponding numbers on the shelf and to be quick so i’m not behind. i start and it’s pretty simple until i get to packages i’m unable to pick up. i’m extremely short so i can’t lift super heavy things but i have somewhat of an ability. the conveyor worker asked if i needed help and we worked together which was nice but she continuously yelled at me for putting packages on the side of the shelf because there was no more room and all of the employees acted like they were better than me. it really made me feel less than and i would never wish that upon anyone. on the other hand i felt nauseous and i needed a break so i asked when my break would be because i was feeling nauseous and i was told i didn't get one because i was working 4 hours (in my country breaks are mandatory at 5 hours) which is fine so i waited.. and waited… and worked for 5 and a half hours. when i finally caught up to speed and had one package that was too heavy for me the manager told me i had one package i explained how some of this stuff was too heavy for me and how the temp agency said 10 lbs- 25 lbs. she called me a liar in a nicer vocabulary and told me it wasn't that heavy and proceeded to laugh when i had to pick up a package around 100 lbs and struggle. i finally made it through all the packages and i went over to her and asked where i sign out. she told me i don't get to leave until the work is done and i explained my hours. she said and i quote “then leave and don't come back” and i said “yeah wasn't planning on it” signed out and left! that was in november, it's now february and my shoulders + back hurt from time to time because of all the heavy boxes she made me lift.
