I’ve been on the job seekers support subsidy here in NZ for what is now 3 years, and not by choice. I would rather be working than sitting around at home wondering how much longer till I have to settle with being on said subsidy for the rest of my life. I think I’ve hit that break point.
I have been working with a work broker to try get me into a job again, cause as far as I can tell, the government is real angry with me being on the support pay for so long. But I’ve been with this broker for 8 months. In 8 months we have made 682 applications to businesses across the entirety of the region. You know what I’ve gotten back from all nearly 700 applications?
One call from New World saying they weren’t interested in hiring me as I am somehow over qualified for checkout operation, and thats it.
I fit the bill for about 80% of customer service businesses, and yet despite there being a “critical lack of workers in the industry willing to work face to face” and “many businesses will take just about anyone they are so desperate” apparently none of those businesses, of which all 682 were separate companies, wanted to hire me, someone with experience in customer service. That actually enjoys face to face service.
TL;DR nearly 700 applications later in a supposedly devoid and screaming out industry, no company or business bar one even have the balls to call or email me to say they don’t want to hire me and I’m at my limit of giving a flying fuck.
