Quickly realizing how underpaid I am one month into my new job

I recently accepted a position working for the labs of a university medical center as a supply technician. I had been out of work for 3 months after leaving my previous job due to them lying about the available work and unsafe work conditions. The job description was as providing supply and logistic support to 27 outpatient clinics around the city and surrounding communities. I would be maintaining a stock room at a central location, ordering/receiving lab materials, and delivering these materials on a 5 day rotating delivery schedule. Nothing too crazy, and I have over 11 years supply and logistics experience working in the medical field (Supply in the military and OR supply tech for a large hospital). The base pay was $19.33/hr (the same pay I was making 5 years ago at the hospital I worked for), a significant cut from the near $28/hr I was making at…

The base pay was $19.33/hr (the same pay I was making 5 years ago at the hospital I worked for), a significant cut from the near $28/hr I was making at my previous position, but had good benefits and I really needed the work. After 6 months of probation, I will be up for review and a raise.

After starting, I found out that this position was a brand new one created by one of the assistant directors because they were having trouble with the prime vendor delivering items on time. Fair enough. However, NOTHING was setup yet. Not the storage location, not the PAR levels, not even the cost center for purchasing. So I have to create my own job from the ground up…for less than $20/hr. Alright, fine.

A week in, I have several meetings and meet many of the supervisors and directors in the department. Come to find out, my boss (an Assistant Director) was spending “30-40% of her time” working on things that I will be taking over. In addition, no less than 7 supervisors also spend a portion of their time doing will I would be taking over.

It appears that this organization thinks its perfectly fine for one person getting paid less than $20/hr to do the work of 8 salaried supervisory people.

Needless to say, I'm touching up my resume and getting back on the hunt.

Edit: I also found out that, while 27 locations are open now, eventually they will have 48 total locations open that I will be solely responsible for.
