My coworker in a different role is in sales and covers different regions. Their counterpart for a nearby region quit, so they’ve been asked to cover the accounts which they have been doing.
This week they told them they are not backfilling the role and are condensing it all into one new bigger region that my coworker has to cover.
No consideration, not even a please from the company. They were just told “you’re now doing this”. My coworker told me they asked for $10k more base salary and were given $5k. The person who quit was making $80k. In addition, they left for a competitor making $30k more because this company underpays sales reps.
So the company gets to save $75k and my coworker sees it as an opportunity / that the company really must trust and believe in their skills.
How are we so brainwashed??? I cannot convince my coworker that they just got screwed.
