If clients are not scheduled to visit the office I am allowed to dress “more casual”… tie still required.

As a note I work all day on the computer, as a one man advertising department/graphic designer for a large company. The dress code is suit and tie, even though I just work on the computer all day and I never actually meet with the clients coming in. Well my boss met with me, and he said if I checked the schedule and there were no meetings scheduled, I could dress down. I asked what he meant and he said I could skip the suit but dress pants/dress shirt and tie would still be expected. He acted like it was some great privilege…
