Untruthful Supervisor

So I'm currently in the process of applying for a new job and one of the professional refrences I wrote down was contacted and said I was terminated when it was not the case (I have concrete proof) and possibly ruining my chances of being hired in this new place. I have stopped hearing back from this potential employer. Wondering if I could take action against this person for stating false information
