Long story short: my boss asked if I wanted to fill an additional role at work, but I'm fortunate enough to be in a position where I don't really need the extra hours, and, consequently, I don't want them either. I'm already performing extra tasks outside of my job description, the work isn't great in general, and to top it off, the pay is sub-par (without the additional role that would be added on). I'd really rather not take the “offer”, but I've also never been in this position, so I don't know my best approach.
My main concern is that this isn't actually a choice at all, where a “yes” or “no” answer genuinely hold the same weight, and if I do end up declining or trying to negotiate more pay if “no” fails, all of a sudden, despite nothing else changing, I won't be seen as a good worker anymore with other consequences following.
I'm not terribly great at being assertive, so I've bought myself more time to “think about it” but they want an answer soonish, anyone have any tips about how I should word/address this?
