Antiwork

I’m so tired.

I’ve been working in a department store in the city since I was a teenager. I got accepted into a good college nearby and continued to support myself through 4 years with the same job. I graduated with excellent grades, internships, and research experience. I cannot find a decent job. I know this is an antiwork subreddit but I am so sick of doing the same dead end job for the past 6 years. The only reason I’m staying is because of the hourly pay that’s been increasing bc of my seniority. I need something new. Something that can put my hard earned degree to work. However, almost every entry level job requires X amount of years of experience. Wtf? Why list it as entry level if someone just entering the workforce can’t do it? And the job offers I have been getting are only paying almost half as much…

I need something new. Something that can put my hard earned degree to work. However, almost every entry level job requires X amount of years of experience. Wtf? Why list it as entry level if someone just entering the workforce can’t do it? And the job offers I have been getting are only paying almost half as much as I’m earning right now.

I don’t know. Should I suck it up and keep working at my store, or take the massive paycut and start working somewhere I could potentially start a career with?

All I want to do is be able to afford my rent, maybe buy some toys for my cat, and eat something besides frozen dinner. Is that too much to ask for?
