i told a prospective employer to scram because they wanted me to interview in a suit

I haven't worn a suit regularly in 5 years and I do not face clients. I applied for a role at a pretty big institution (CEO is a renowned jerk) and got a response within a few days, seeking my availability for an in person interview. I gave my availability and mentioned that my current employer has a casual dress policy so if i was coming in for an interview I would be dressed casually so as to not raise eyebrows at my current workplace.

I asked them to notify me if that would be an issue.

They came back to me saying that I would need to dress in business attire. After I told them I had not worn business attire regularly in half a decade, they offered a compromise – button up shirt, chinos and leather shoes. The reason given was that hiring manager did not want to give off a bad impression whilst I walked through the business and that minimum standards had to be met. All that sounded like his problem, not mine so I told the HR idiot “let's not worry about it. Im not proceeding with my candidacy because I dont want to have conversations about dress codes” and hung up.

I guess the place will get candidates, because it has a prestigious name, but damn it felt good to tell someone you ain't gonna dance their dance.
