If you want to get paid your vacation you have to give 5 weeks notice

Today, I put in my 4 weeks notice. I am on good terms with my supervisors, and am well- liked on my team. I wasn't looking for a new job but an incredible opportunity fell into my lap with upward mobility, better pay and benefits, and consultation opportunities due to the nature of the work. I updated my boss I was submitting my notice, and they were nothing but wonderful; wished me well and seemed genuinely happy for me. I have had a vacation scheduled for nearly a year now; I take a vacation the same week annually. This vacation had been paid for. It also falls in the middle of my notice period. Apparently admin will not pay me if I take my vacation in my notice period. My options from admin are to leave in 2 weeks and lose my vacation time completely or give 5 weeks notice…

I have had a vacation scheduled for nearly a year now; I take a vacation the same week annually. This vacation had been paid for. It also falls in the middle of my notice period. Apparently admin will not pay me if I take my vacation in my notice period. My options from admin are to leave in 2 weeks and lose my vacation time completely or give 5 weeks notice to get my vacation paid out. This seems like a bad strategy in their part, as I could just leave early and start my new job earlier. I'm trying to leave on good terms, as I really loved the work I've been doing and I like the team I work with. But trying to squeeze an extra week out of me seems petty.

Thank you to anyone who reads this, I just needed to rant about how petty the whole thing is.
