Corporate complained about my boyfriend getting OT; it backfired

My boyfriend is a manager with a contract company that staffs warehouses in the area. When he started the job he was supposed to get a salaried position but he negotiated it to hourly and eventually got a raise because everyone likes him there. However, because he works in an actual warehouse he often has to deal with a lot of warehouse-related drama. It’s apparently bad enough that the turnover for most of the management is pretty high, because a lot of them don’t know what they’re doing — according to my boyfriend his role is supposed to be split between 2 people, but when he was hired they were unable to find a second person who could keep up with the work.

The people in corporate keep trying to stiff him when he accrues a lot of OT, which often leads to a vicious cycle: he’ll refuse to work the extra hours and then they eventually have to call him in because something gets screwed up, due to most of the other managers screwing up, usually with staffing or messing up a quarterly report (this is important later).

The most recent paycheck he had was supposed to reflect holiday pay for the Fourth of July and the hours he had to work that day. It only reflected the hours worked. Not only that, but corporate tried to screw him out of pay for hours worked on Sunday, because he was working remotely. He has a bunch of contingencies in case they try that, but he was still mad especially because Corporate were the ones asking him to put in extra work on Sundays.

I suggested that in light of Sundays being his only scheduled day off, that he not do any more side projects.

He also took today off, because his immediate supervisor was supposed to be on site to handle anything that went sideways. Unfortunately something happened that the guy above my boyfriend couldn’t handle and one of the other managers called him begging to come in.

He said he would, but only if he had it in writing that he would be paid. So they texted him that they had worked it out with corporate, and then he left.

He still isn’t back yet, which means whatever it was had to be major.
