Across social media, admittedly mainly TikTok but nevertheless there's people complaining about having to work for a horrible boss and comments flood in saying “start your own business” or “I work for myself and make X amount now.”
Now I'm sure starting a business is great because you are avoiding the many pitfalls of modern day work but there's plenty of risk and no guarantee you're going to make money.
As someone who struggles to work for others, I'm keen to try my hand at starting a business or becoming self employed and have explored various avenues; all of which lead to a dead end. Either they're saturated, require upfront fees above my wealth, I'm just not skilled or they're a scam.
For the average Joe who doesn't have a trade the idea of self employment just seems so far out of grasp.
The videos of jet washing or roof cleaning that claim to make $50+ per hour aren't realistic for the UK.
What am I missing?
I'm genuinely interested because there must be some knack to it
Anyone given up the 9-5 for self employment? Or should I say traded the 9-5 for 5am-11pm
Thanks in advance
