Got denied for a job because I’m a college student

So I've been looking for new jobs because my current job sucks (the actual job isn't bad, but my coworkers suck and management is terrible) I had an interview and I mentioned I was going to college when they asked about my availability. The interview went fine, it was a part time job and I was okay with the pay and everything. A few days later, I got an email saying that I didn't get the job because they felt I wouldn't be “committed enough” to that job and they felt I didn't have enough availability for them. (I literally have classes 2 days a week and the rest are online) It's a grocery store, did they expect I'd be available 24/7 and not advance my career?
