To sum up my work, I manage a manufacturing facility of about 20 people. Our hours can vary anywhere from 6 hours to 15 Hours on our worst/busiest days. This is a main factor of why it has been so difficult to retain employees, on top of the company not wanting to pay a fair market wage for the according positions. After a few complaints, the company has offered to switch its tenured employees to salary as a way to guarantee our pay and as a way to incentivize more people to work beyond the 8 hour workday if needed. There are a plethora of other issues which I won’t bother diving into. My main issue was that I hadn’t received a raise in over a year, and the salary offer they presented was less than my hourly YTD pay for 2021! To say I felt disrespected and undervalued would be an understatement. I’ve worked 15 hour days, caught Covid from work and brought it home, avoided serious injury multiple times due to an unsafe environment that senior management refuses to put money into to properly upgrade, reduced the downtime on the floor by over 18%, and this is the thanks I get? These companies (big and SMALL) will take advantage of you until there is nothing left. Growth is virtually non-existent these days and the only way to move up is to move around.
