Hey guys,
So I’m a recent graduate and just got my first full-time job out of college at a dental clinic as their receptionist. When applying, I applied for a specific office that is close to my house (found out during interview there is also 3 other offices, which are about an hour away from my home).
During my interview he rescheduled on me, forgetting he was interviewing me, 3 times. I knew this was a red flag, but I was desperate for a job and the pay met my expectations. I agreed to come work at 2 offices. I would work at the office near my house 3 times a week, and the one that’s a little over an hour away about 2 times a weeks, depending on my co-workers. After accepting the offer, I was asking about which days I’d be coming into the office that’s further away, and what 2 days of the week would be my days off, since they are open on Saturdays, but he said we’d talk about it later. I asked him 3 times about my schedule after my first few days of work, but he kept putting it off until after my first week at work.
I was told either the morning of, or 1 night before as to what my schedule for the week was.
3rd week at work now and I wasn’t told which office to come into for the week, and I just assumed that I was coming into the office near my home today. He said he'd let me know about my schedule tomorrow (Wednesday).
The thing is, I don’t mind commuting to the office that’s an hour away, but I would like to know in advance when I would come into that office. I'd also like to know what days I have off in advance so I can plan ahead with friends and family. Since we're open everyday except Sunday, and I get 2 days off per week, I requested to have Tuesdays off when finally talking to him about my schedule. Fast forward to the next 2 work weeks, I'm scheduled to work Tuesdays and wasn't told what day I get off.
One thing I told myself when job searching was that I really want to have good work and life balance. When it comes to work schedules, I never really had any issues with knowing what days of the week I worked or got off, so when I started working here, I sort of assumed that it would be the least of my problems. However, I constantly have to ask for my schedule or am told last minute. I'm going to ask him tomorrow to let me know 2 weeks in advance on days I work and get off, but I definitely feel like this is just the start to many more problems down the line…
I'm planning on powering through because I need this job and know that so many other people are in a similar situation, are on call, or have a lot more on their plate, but I've really been dreading going to work and not knowing what my schedule is half the time, making it super hard to plan any activities outside of work.
Thank you for listening to my rant. I needed to get this off of my chest.
