So, I work in a hospital, and we are getting rid of some old drug dispensing machines because we bought new ones. The company we purchased them from pays another company(Tazmanian) to pick up the old ones. So, I was talking to these 2 guys who work for Tasmanian, and they were in a real sad shape.
One guy is limping with a bum knee, which he says is work related but says he can't afford to do anything about it. So he's hauling this 200-pound machine when he can barely walk.
The other guy told me he lives in a tent. A fucking tent! This is New England in the winter. Some days, your eyelashes freeze shut. I'm pretty tough and bike in the winter, but I could never imagine surviving in a tent.
How can a working human being in this rich country be homeless? It just seems shameful to me.
