Can management close a shift from one day to the next?

Night shift is not performing like they would like it to be due to high turnover. People leave for other jobs due to pay, heat, heavy lifting, etc. I’ve been hearing from a few people that management wants to close our shift next week, they haven’t said anything to us, can they do that?
