So really I just want to share some good news, which I feel at least comes from some people wising up. For context I'm a caregiver for adults with special needs, specifically in as much of an at home setting as possible. The work is hard, sometimes disgusting, and not terribly safe depending on the client and while I find it rewarding, we've been even more short staffed than usual. So with all that going on, I expected the general talk of “We're hiring people as fast as we can”, “You people just don't want to work anymore”, “Back in my day-“, and the like.
But no, we got a company wide announcement today that corporate appreciates our hard work. Oh and here's a $500 bonus for everyone working directly with our clients cause we have it the worse out of everyone when we're short staffed. The company has apparently changed hands three times over the past five years, and apparently the gal who now owns and runs it all gets it. As I was already thinking of quitting and moving to a different job, now I… actually feel like I might stay. It's nice as now not only do I feel that the work is rewarding, now I'm being rewarded for doing a good job in a meaningful way.
