I got a new job making 90k in Atlanta, coming from Florida with no income tax. 5% income tax plus local now, significant other lost her job, and now with inflation/housing surge, houses are up 25-55% so renting an ordinary 2 bedroom home is more than half my pre-tax paycheck…. On top of that my mother has cancer and is disabled can't walk so I'm having to create a go fund me to beg for money to get her a POWER wheelchair since Medicare pays nothing at all to help. They argued that she needs to rip up the carpet and get hardwood floors which costs like 9k. My dad can't possibly push around a wheelchair in the house. Medicare just refuses to help with a power wheelchair for a CANCER PATIENT so they just refuse to pay, or pay as little as possible.
In terms of work, I've worked remote for two years but now they want to require us to live in the city area for the bullshit 4 days a week hybrid schedule to foster collaboration, and force socialization and commuting to the oversized office the idiot execs signed a contract for so they punish us. I get more done at home but being forced to relocate to another state in the biggest city of all is hard…. Anything under 1500 is in a very high crime area, moldy, or doesn't include AC. We asked for fully remote instead of the hybrid work model and was given the corporate bullshit runaround. Doesn't fit with their expectations of collaboration and fostering team work etc.
We're definitely being cheated out of living a good life
