I’m not “multitasking” enough

It's my first post here, i'm sorry it's a rant. But i'm so sad and angry that i wanted to share the reasoning of my shitty employer. I'm being fired because I'm not “multitasking” enough. What does that mean you ask? I work (not for long) for an agency that organizes events. It was my first experience in organizing events, but i'm not new to the general field (press agencies, advertising, social media and so on). They knew this and i stated from the beginning that i was more than willing to learn and grow as a professional with them, organizing events. All was well and everybody was happy with the arrangement.

Since the team is really small (4 people including me) my tasks were but not limited to:

accounting, emitting invoices to clients, soliciting unpaid invoices, managing jobs on the software for the events staff (stewards and hostesses), managing jobs on the master file of the current events, location scouting (which i developed a talent in finding perfect locations for every client need and taste), managing organizing secretariats (sorry if its not the correct term, it refers to every managing aspect like booking flights/trains/transfers and bookings to hotels/restaurants/venues for guests that will need everything wrote before that will be attending to an event), and recently cost estimaes for events, managing direct communication and requests for clients and project presentations.

I'm not God or a perfect being, i make mistakes. Of course we are not talking about insulting clients, make completely wrong invoices and so on. With all these tasks i forgot every once in a while to report one of the hundreds phone calls we receive or to answer or forward right away one of the hundreds mail we receive, or to update right away something.

I'm still learning and even veterans in the field make mistakes.

Anyway, i get called by the boss yesterday for a “meeting” in which she proceed to tell me that she has bad news for me. She starts stating “you are very good when you work on this and this and this, when you focus the task we give you. But you know, here we need someone more multitasking, we have a lot of work going on, it happened before that you got wrong that detail or you forgot something”

I was speechless. One hour before a presentation i made (the very first one i made for them) for a project landed them a 120k euros event.

“You know the intern is here from about the same time as you and does not make this mistakes”

Half an hour before the intern got scolded because he was not managing the event staff software since one month because he was so overworked with other tasks.

This was the gist of it. I had no words, i tried to state my case but the decision was already made.

Work laws in my country protect my employment until its expiration (31st of august, my birthday, yay), but I guess iwill spend my time in the office job hunting and minding my own business instead of working.

Time to live up to their expectation of not being “multitasking”

Sorry for the long rant.
