Cereal is on Sale

I’ve been going back and forth about sharing a poem I wrote in 2018. It fits the theme of this sub and I saw someone else shared one recently so I figured I should share mine. It’s titled Cereal is on Sale and I read it almost every time I do a poetry reading event. Also excuse the lack of punctuation. I originally wrote it on my phone and never went back and edited it. Tagged nsfw to be safe. Edit: fixed formatting. Stupid Reddit app on iOS. My body has resorted to autonomy due to the monotony of my routines Corded like the umbilical still attached to mommy in biblical proportions My view of this reality is distorted because I can’t afford to stop feeding off the titties of these corporations I have to relinquish myself from their visceral grasp that has me locked in like a parent holding…

My body has resorted to autonomy due to the monotony of my routines
Corded like the umbilical still attached to mommy in biblical proportions
My view of this reality is distorted because I can’t afford to stop feeding off the titties of these corporations
I have to relinquish myself from their visceral grasp that has me locked in like a parent holding onto their child tight for dear life
They make it impossible to distinguish my basic needs when all I want is a decent nights sleep
But they blind you and tantalize you with low hanging fruit until they’re facing a lawsuit
Because a working class citizen gets pushed to his limits and decides he should be slitting his throat, yet the business is forgiven
Perhaps my view of reality isn’t really distorted
Maybe I just see clearly what everyone else needs to see dearly
My head and my heart are fighting in a war and I’ve no idea which side each one is fighting for
There’s two sides to a coin like the underside of my loins
It’s hard to feel alive when all you can do is try to make ends meet just to be able to survive
Capitalism is for the rich because the poor get walked all over like a doormat in Walmart after a snowstorm, ain’t that a bitch?
A business needs its workers except the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer
They act like sages when they up your wages but the CEO’s worth more than a million
And they’ll ask for your opinion but really they’re just feeding you a line of bullshit to make ya feel included so they can further abuse ya
And try to pacify you when you speak up but you better keep up when they ask you to work faster
You’ll just get crucified when it ends in a disaster
Whoops you just took a pay cut cause they upped your insurance
Oh you got stage four cancer? we can cure this but you can’t afford it
Aborted from life like the child that never got a chance to smile
I’m pro choice but back to the coin with two sides
Heads versus tails, they’re the heads and we’re the tails
It’s impossible for us not to fail because oh look, cereal is on sale
