School wants to fire me and tell me my services are no longer needed when I give one month’s notice? Okay, no student records for you.

I used to teach part time for about 5 years at a very small night school just for some extra cash. I was very loyal to this school and never really did anything to warrant any kind of reprimand. I taught a couple days a week at this week, while being a full time high school teacher during the day. I really enjoyed it because I taught elementary students at the school so it was a nice change up from my daily job. The head of school during my final year decided to nitpick about insignificant things throughout the year. She also decided to question my student assessments for no valid reason. I really enjoyed it because I taught elementary students at the school so it was a nice change up from my daily job. The head of school during my final year decided to nitpick about insignificant things throughout the year. She also decided to question my student assessments for no valid reason. It all finally blew up in December right before break and I decided that I had had enough. I emailed the administration over Christmas break and said that January would be my last month and that I was hoping a month’s notice would allow for another teacher to be hired before I left. i didn’t want my students to be negatively affected. I received an email the same day that my services were no longer needed. Okay, no problem, I didn’t need the money. They then emailed me that they needed my grade book. This is the grade book that was supposedly full of invalid grades. I responded that per their last email my services were no longer needed, and that my assessments had been questioned throughout the year so why would they want those invalid student records? I then promptly disposed of the grade book that had 4 months of student grades, let the administration know that I would not be able to provide the grade book, and blocked all of the members of admin on my email and phone. I emailed the parents of my students to let them know that I had intended on leaving in January but admin had decided to let me go. The school never hired another teacher because the content was very specific “It was a Portuguese language and culture school” and instead the other two teachers had to take over my students. The parents were not very happy with the head of school from what I heard after the fact.

The head of school coincidentally decided to retire at the end of the year.
