So my girlfriend's been working in retail for a little over a year now. Big multinational corporation that doesn't give a shit about its employees and their mental and physical wellbeing, the usual mess.

She spends hours on her feet with unbearable backpain, sometimes coming home crying. Management is aware, they just decide to do nothing about it and to keep hiring new dumbasses slaving away for minimum wage.

Prior to quitting she was thinking of how to quit, what to say to her manager, what her reason would be and how to approach it. She has been starting her own company for a while, so she actually had a pretty solid reason to quit in the first place.

At the workfloor she addressed the manager and told her: 'Oh hey, can I talk to you for a minute?' The manager, clearly sensing her depressed demeanor for the last x months she'd been working there, responded: 'Yeah, sure. You wanna quit or something?'

The manager caught her off guard, but she managed to confirm that that was her plan. When the manager asked for a reason instinctively she responded: 'General sadness..', to which her superior replied: 'OK', only to continue talking about her own life and issues.

General sadness..
