After being down to 3 members of staff and no one to cover my break, I was at a breaking point. I rang transport office and I told them that I would be closing the gatehouse, and putting the barriers down that no vehicle could leave nor enter.
Of course that sent them into a spiral of pure panic, after getting the senior transport manager and the manager of warehouse operations, they had to pull someone out of a disciplinary meeting to cover someone else’s position so they could cover my position.
One of the staff said that if I hadn’t “kicked and screamed” about it, I wouldn’t have got my break, and they were right.
Feels good, chest hurts a bit from all the excitement but ah well, it was well worth it.
