My job has decided that the way to motivate people is to put them on a Powerpoint that the entire department watches once a month. The rest of the Powerpoint is project updates, new employees, etc. Nothing upsets me more than this Powerpoint but we're all supposed to attend. It can have good info but… It really frustrates me.
How do you get on this Powerpoint? Today, it's not signing off until all of their work is finished (even if it's 3 hours after closing), helps everyone else even though he doesn't have time, closed a ticket at 2am because “he's a 24/7 guy,” be in the office 100% of the time, turns on webcam for every call and insists that everyone else does, and finally, knows this company is FAMILY!
You can also get on this Powerpoint by closing the most tickets, writing the most documentation, replying the fastest, the longest phone calls, and handles the most tickets for others.
This all amounts to working for free and expecting no benefits. This would include a higher wage for high quality of work, and getting paid time-and-a-half for overtime. (We've recently started using overtime – but it has to be approved by your manager before, and it is very hard to get in general, many loopholes to give regular pay.)
My goal is to never be on this Powerpoint. To me, it means you're a bootlicker who loves being a cog of capitalism. Do you think they know that they'd be replaced tomorrow if they died on their way home tonight?
