Employers: if you are REQUIRING hybrid work…

for a job that can be done FULLY remote, you are taking away bodily autonomy from your workforce. For as long as the pandemic rages, hybrid work is not a perk. Or a way to create culture. It is a mandate that removes the ability to protect one’s health and backtracks on inclusivity and DEI efforts. Why? Because “return to office” plans lead to breakouts among workers and requiring compliance says “you have no control over this. for a job that can be done FULLY remote, you are taking away bodily autonomy from your workforce.

For as long as the pandemic rages, hybrid work is not a perk. Or a way to create culture. It is a mandate that removes the ability to protect one’s health and backtracks on inclusivity and DEI efforts.

Why?

  1. Because “return to office” plans lead to breakouts among workers and requiring compliance says “you have no control over this. I do not care if you get sick”

  2. An ironclad company “policy” around “safety” is irrelevant in 2022, with every evading variant. Not every worker can afford to take this risk

  3. Workers who are immunocompromised or live with those who are have to live with the heartbreaking reality that they can no longer carry out a job they were crushing a year prior because of WHERE they are required to do it. Likely a poorly ventilated office with NO MASKING

  4. Even if your office is safe, a commute on PUBLIC TRANSIT may not be

  5. We are ACTIVELY discriminating against individuals who want to prioritize a SAFE working environment via this hiring and retention strategy. If you are an employer who pays lip service to DEI, think really, really hard about what that actually means

We can’t booster our way out of this. They are not effective for everyone. People with chronic illness, such as CKD, can take a simple course of antivirals either. Hybrid work can exist, but it needs to be a CHOICE based on what each employee thinks is best for their body. Anything else is INHUMANE!
