Cover letter advice

Hoping this is an okay sub to write this one. I find cover letters to be an absolutely ridiculous norm that our society feels necessary when applying for jobs. But they are necessary unfortunately. So my question is for anyone in a hiring position, what do you want to see in a cover letter? Would you rather see one that is very well written and professional or would you rather see one that is more personal? Do you want it to be specific to the job being applied for (besides name of job and company) or are you accepting of the fact that most people use the same cover letter for all jobs they are applying for? Right now I’m using a cover letter than a resume service helped me write. It’s perfectly fine but it’s definitely not how I speak in daily life. I also feel like it’s probably…
