I did not realize how common this thought is. I was reading an AITA about a lady who requested to move rooms because a large family was sleeping in her room. Now obviously, this lady is not the asshole, people deserve to be roomed comfortably. However, every comment's solution was the same “If you spill over into the next room, you should just pay for 2 rooms”.
Hotel companies have been decreasing their room size and bed count for the past 2 decades and increasing the price to stay. But we're framing this issue as an individual problem? Overwhelmingly the answers were “Hotel companies are private corporations and can do whatever they want to turn a profit”. Okay but they're providing a substandard product.
Also I'd like to point out that the big family epidemic is directly linked to overturning roe v wade., and lack of access to contraceptives. Big families IS a societal issue not an individualistic issue, however Capitalism really has a way of framing corporate greed as an individualistic problem. “Well it doesn't affect me, so companies SHOULD just charge more for people it affects”. Capitalism really popped off today…
