I work at a large, multinational corporation with record profits reported this year. Today I had my mid year review with a new boss, and he tells me “we’re a matrix company,” that I’m currently performing at my level, and that I need further development to advance. He says he will send me the matrix to “know what to do to get to the next level.” The problem is that I’ve been on the promotion track for the last four years with Upper Exceeds ratings each year. Every year the can gets kicked down the road and I’m told the same BS story how there’s no money for promotions. I’m at the top of my salary range and I won’t get a meaningful raise this year without the promotion I’ve waited 8 years for. I’ve been an electrical engineer with this company for 12 years.
So, tonight I decided to look up my company’s job postings and I see a ton of open requisitions, some with signing bonuses up to $50,000. Fuck management and their lies. There’s money, just not for existing employees. I applied to one of those open reqs just now, which promises a minimum signing bonus of $10k and the salary grade I should have had years ago. The job description is nearly identical to my skill set at the same job site. (No, they are not replacing me—I’m multiskilled with many specializations). I emailed the director in charge of that division and they are excited to have me, even told me the specific req number to apply for.
This could be retaliation for my recent FMLA leave of absence to care for a dying family member. My boss knows that I’m being considered for promotion.
tldr; Fuck shitty bosses and their lies. Denied a promotion for years, applied to another division with the promotion built into the new role. Same work as before.
