In 2015 I interviewed for a big company that sells knick knacks from all over the World and it's set up in the style of a Market. I was interviewing for a supervisor position and met with their GM and one of their managers.
The first thing the GM told me was that she considered all employees late if they didn't show up at least 15 minutes before the shift. They needed to be there early so that they'd already have their till counted and ready to go by the time they clocked in. So she expected us to do work off the clock? Okay.. sure..
Then she proceeded to tell me the store generally ran with 2 or max 3 workers at one time and we were expected to help customers lift furniture. Which was fine if she didn't follow up with a “our pay is just below competitive but we foster a healthy work enviornment!” Sure you do.
I don't remember much about the rest of the interview, that sentence caused me to switch off. I'm not sure, but I may have dozed off a bit while she was rambling..
I wasn't called for a second interview. Which I wouldn't have gone for either! That place sucked!
Oh, and she wasn't even hiring supervisor! She was hiring seasonals and then choosing one for the supervisor position.
That place was a shit show! When I shop there now (which is very seldom. I only go during christmas cause they're able to procure different types of panettone) I always feel bad for their workers.
