A gentle reminder that “contract to hire” is exploitation.

I'm making this post because lately I have been inundated with messages from recruiters seeking to fill “contract to hire” positions. These are a fucking scam and only benefit greedy companies that are looking to avoid having to provide their employees with benefits and basic employee protections. This also saves them money by not having to conduct thorough or even adequate interviews. Furthermore, there is no guarantee your employment will continue beyond the contract period. They all say the same shit. “It's basically guaranteed you will be hired full time after the contract period.” And “We've never seen anyone not offered a full time position at the end of the contract.” Fuck them, they are liars. DO NOT entertain these positions. Tell the recruiters explicitly that you do not entertain these positions.

Furthermore, I urge everyone to set up high quality LinkedIn accounts, and set your status to “open”. When a recruiter contacts you and you are not interested in the position for whatever reason, firmly tell them why you aren't interest. I have been doing this for years, and it only benefit us as workers to do this. I know that most companies have a policy where a recruiter has to record the results of any interaction with potential candidates. This includes any reasons given by candidates for not being interested.
