So I got hired 5 months ago at a Chinese owned warehouse, & the workers are primarily Chinese on work visas. They speak no English besides the owner and the manager. Me and another 6 Workers are the only people their not Chinese. We all got started out at 16$ /hr.
About 5 weeks ago a new hire came in and was put in our area. He does the exact same work we do down to a T. He’s an American born Chinese with English being his first language. I got along with him really well and thought nothing of it.
5 weeks into his hire I was just talking bs talk about anything and stumbled upon about how this the job is temporary and that they don’t pay us enough and he agreed. I told him that I make 16$/hr and he was shocked telling me he got hired at 21$/hr. He told me their was a quick interview that all they did was ask when he could start.
I brushed it off thinking good for him but now I’m starting to realize that everyone their is getting paid more than me and my 6 non Chinese co workers just because were not their race. Even the new hires they bring in. No difference in work ethnic or anything just because we’re not their ethnicity.
It’s been getting to me and now I’m ALOT less enthusiastic when it comes to just doing my job . Is their anything I can do? I’m almost sure this is wage discrimination.
