So, I worked for a grocery chain for 6 years until this week.
One way or another I had to take care of my family.
They are a terrible company who let's store managers flounder around doing whatever they want. They employ A LOT of Bosnian immigrants who, despite coming from war torn countries, insist on shitting on Americans who try to make a living. They gain from a very specific, racist system being white pasing and dont blink an eye at it.
I'm black and this company makes it a point to pass us over for a lot no matter your skillset.
This chick that I worked for? 40 year old Pretty Bosnian lady who feels like she worked really hard to be a store manager and has an ego the size of Jupiter. She hated that nobody puts a lot of weight on the things she does or claims to do, and will constantly talk about how hard she works and how she is the “hardest worker in the building”. Wants respect but doesn't give it. Couldn't stand the fact I got to the point I barely acknowledged her unless I absolutely had to.
She's petty, lazy when it comes to managing and would rather do busy work than what they tell her to do. She is vindictive as well.
She ran any motivation of mine into the ground. I know a lot, I'm good at what I do especially as a total store manager. I did my job properly but she started getting bitchy when I stood up for myself.
But she would shit on me for not cleaning other people's messes when i couldnt prioritize it, expect me to do all this work as a manager and still wouldn't pay me more money no matter what I did.
So I went to get another job, working 80 hour work weeks to provide for my family. I have a toddler and elderly grandparents one if which is chronically ill. I am in school finishing my degree and trying to better myself so my daughter and I can gave better.
I wasn't doing it for fun.
Some old racist white guy “snitched” on me because I guess he saw me, and the store manager actually tried to interrogate me and threatened I couldn't work there and this and that because it was against “policy” and “conflict of interest”. (That 99% of people ignore because it's retail)
OVER A GROCERY STORE.
I was showing up to all my shifts. Nothing changed besides that fact I wasn't sleeping.
But these people decided that the way I put food on the table didn't matter. Didn't matter what I had going on they have authority to flex and egos to prove.
I quit, I cussed her out because she kept insisting on me being in the wrong for making a living and I quit.
Never confirmed or denied anything but the fact someone would go so far as to fuck with something that literally has no effect on them was enraging.
American labor laws are trash and the work industry is trash and capitalism breeds evil
TLDR:
Threatened by a job I worked at for trying to make a living by working another full time job in the same industry even though none of it affected them.
